About the Work:
Rechnitz (The Exterminating Angel) is a play by Elfriede Jelinek inspired by the 1945 massacre of Jewish forced laborers in Rechnitz, Austria. Through fragmented language, shifting voices, and fractured testimony, the work confronts historical amnesia, fascism, complicity, and collective denial.

Tea Alagić directed a workshop production of the play at the Polonsky Shakespeare Center in Brooklyn in 2015, produced by Theatre for a New Audience. She later returned to Rechnitz through the Mercury Store Residency in 2024.
