About the Work:

The King of Hell’s Palace, by Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig, is inspired by true events. The play follows a Chinese doctor who discovers that unsafe blood-plasma collection is spreading HIV through rural communities. When officials attempt to conceal the crisis, she risks her career, family, and safety to expose the truth.

The play examines medical ethics, political corruption, personal responsibility, and the human cost of silence.

Tea Alagić directed the 2016 workshop production at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre.
